1. What is a scrapbook (a.k.a. memory album)? A scrapbook, also known as a memory album or photo album, is a collection of photos and memorabilia, arranged in a pleasing way into an album. The purpose of a scrapbook is to share one’s memories, accomplishments, significant events, or life story with friends, family, and future generations. Back to FAQ List
2. Why should I invest in a scrapbook? The fast-paced society in which we live makes it difficult for many people to find time for time-consuming projects such as scrapbooking. Some people have no interest in the creative process involved in designing layouts. If you have even the slightest interest in scrapbooking, I urge you to give it a try. You may find that you love it! Of course, if you don’t have the time, energy or desire to complete a scrapbook for yourself, A Page To Remember is here to do the hard work for you! Consider the look on your friend’s, co-worker’s or loved one’s face when they receive a custom scrapbook made especially with them in mind! Give us a call today to discuss your special project! 3. Why can’t I keep my photos in my old photo albums? If you have an older photo album, there’s a good chance that it is a magnetic-style album. (You pulled back the clear, PVC (plastic) pages and stuck your photos to each page and then returned the plastic sheeting to the page.) What we’ve discovered in recent years is that these magnetic albums are actually ruining our cherished photos and memorabilia. The chemicals in these albums are turning our pages--and our pictures--yellow or yellowish-brown and making them brittle. Scrapbook products today, from the albums themselves to the adhesive and materials used to embellish each page are mostly safe for your photos, ensuring that they’ll be enjoyed for generations to come. 4. What do “archival” and “acid free” mean? The terms “archival” and “acid free” mean that the products are safe to use with your photos and memorabilia. They are free of chemicals which would break down over time, causing discoloration and deterioration of your pictures. Archival quality materials are meant to last for years. However, it must be noted, that not all products are made to the same high standards, so consumers must be careful to understand the labeling completely when choosing products with photo safety in mind. 5. My photos aren’t in order. Do I need to organize them before sending them to you? In order to provide you with the best looking album possible, it’s important for you to provide us with as much information regarding your photos and memorabilia as possible. Albums can be organized by date, event, holiday, person, etc. It’s up to you to decide! In your New Client packet, you will find forms that will help you organize your items in a way that will assist us in completing your album to your expectations. Depending upon the size of your project, this may take some time, although it shouldn’t be difficult. Of course, if you are in a hurry or prefer not to tackle the mountains of photos alone, A Page To Remember is happy to assist you. We offer this service to our clients for an additional fee. Please see our Photo Organizational Services information. Back to FAQ List
6. What is “cropping”? When designing a page layout, cropping simply means altering the photo to fit the design of the page. Cropping is also sometimes done to align the subject of the photo in a more appropriate location within the picture. It may involve cutting (or sometimes tearing) the photo to a size that will fit a desired space. Back to FAQ List
7. How will my pictures be altered? Your pictures may be increased or decreased in size depending upon the layout size and design. They may be cut, torn, chalked, painted, sanded, tinted, or otherwise changed from their original appearance. For this reason, A Page To Remember requests that you not submit one of a kind photos. Of course, you may direct us to keep any photo intact by making a note of your desire on our Photo Inventory Form provided in your New Client Packet. Your satisfaction is important to us and we are happy to honor your requests with regard to your special photos. Back to FAQ List
8. What if I don’t want my photos to be cropped or altered? Your complete satisfaction is our ultimate goal and we are happy to honor your requests with regard to your special photos. You may direct us to keep any photo intact by making a note of your desire on our Photo Inventory Forms which are provided in your New Client Packet. We will discuss each photo in our consultation to be sure we’re “on the same page” with regard to our visions for the completed project. Back to FAQ List
9. What is “journaling”? Journaling is simply the writing on each page that describes the photos or tells a story. Journaling is your opportunity to tell about each photo as if you were sitting next to the person enjoying your album. It can be simple or detailed. Journaling can be hand written or computer generated. Back to FAQ List
10. Who provides the journaling for my album? Clients may complete their own journaling or A Page To Remember would be happy to complete it for you. We feel it is important for you to include your own handwriting somewhere on the project. Allow us to point to the fact that your handwriting personalizes the album and is something that future generations will cherish--even if you’re not thrilled with your handwriting style. If you choose to complete your own journaling, A Page To Remember will provide you with journaling pens and vellum or coordinating cardstock to complete your pages. If, on the other hand, you choose not to complete your own journaling, A Page To Remember will use the information provided by you to complete the journaling on each page. It’s up to you! 11. I have certain photos and memorabilia that I do not want permanently attached to the page. Can they still be added? Absolutely! There are other, non-permanent options for including these special photos and memorabilia on your album pages. We can use photo corners or pockets on these special items so they may be removed by you (and replaced) at any time. Be sure to note this desire on our Photo Inventory Forms, which are included in your New Client Packet. Back to FAQ List
12. I have a one of a kind photo that I’m thinking of including in my album. What do you suggest? A Page To Remember suggests that you not include one of a kind photos in your custom album or other custom projects. You may consider making a color photo copy of the image and sending that instead. (Please check for Copyrighted work first!) We cannot accept responsibility for damage to one of a kind photos that are sent to us. Back to FAQ List
13. I already have some supplies. Can you use them in my album? Yes and No. The answer to this question depends upon the supplies you have. Some companies choose not to allow custom scrapbook artists to use their supplies in commissioned or for-profit work. Other companies allow the use of their supplies under certain conditions. A Page To Remember honors the requests of these companies. You may bring your supplies to our Consultation and we will be happy to let you know which supplies may be used. Back to FAQ List
14. I’ve seen some scrapbook pages that I like. Can you make my pages look like them? The completed pages that you have seen may be copyrighted by the artist, and we want to honor that artist’s work. However, you are welcome to bring these examples to our consultation and we can discuss the items or techniques that you admire on each page. A Page To Remember is happy to incorporate your suggestions into your custom album and we will strive to make every page one which you will look forward to viewing again and again. Back to FAQ List
15. Will I be able to view some of my pages while you’re working on my album? Definitely! We are happy to provide you with some images of completed pages during the process. We want to put your mind at ease and give you a taste for the beautiful album you’ll soon receive. While time constraints prohibit us from providing images of every page, we want you to rest assured that your memories are in good hands! Back to FAQ List
